Patient Support – Diabetes Care

Submit request or call to make an appointment.

Endocrinologists at Norton Community Medical Associates – Endocrinology and Wendy Novak Diabetes Institute practice an integrated approach to diabetes care and management. Kentucky’s rate of diabetes is currently ranked eighth in the country, and by 2050, 5 million people in the U.S. are expected to have Type 1 diabetes. So there is an urgent need for comprehensive diabetes centers in our community. That’s why at Wendy Novak Diabetes Institute we are focused on providing patients and their families with the tools and skills needed to treat and manage diabetes.

Patients and their families have access to certified diabetes educators who teach patients about various topics, such as how to use nutrition and diet to manage blood sugar, how to operate a glucose monitor and more. We know that living with diabetes can be challenging and requires constant attention. That’s why we provide a library of content to educate patients about the condition and share important management methods.

Fast-track Pre-surgery Program

Patients are referred into this program by their surgeons if the patient’s blood sugar levels are too elevated to complete a safe surgery. On your first visit with the endocrinologist, you will review your care plan and current treatment strategies, and then work with the diabetes dietitian weekly to reduce your blood sugar levels through diet, exercise and changes to medication regimens. The program has resulted in over 160 patients successfully reaching their goal, with shorter hospital stays, lower costs and better outcomes following surgery.

Prediabetes Education Series

The Norton Healthcare Prediabetes On-demand Video Series is an online, self-driven, educational program designed to support you in reversing prediabetes. Videos may be viewed on your own time. You will receive a link in your email within 24 hours after registration.
